Our Vintage Foo Dog Statues were hand carved in China in the early 20th century. Also known as Imperial guard lions, statues similar to these have stood guard at the entrances of Chinese palaces, temples, tombs and government offices for centuries. A symbol of yin and yang, they are traditionally presented as a male and female pair. The female’s paw rests on a cub, representing protection for those inside the structure, while the male’s rests on a ball, symbolizing protection for the building itself. This miniature pair is sculpted from jade with a marble base. They are in excellent condition, with just a few minor imperfections.
