DESCRIPTION

Spirals are a reoccurring theme in the work of Louise Bourgeios. From the 1950s up until her death in 2010, the French-American artist investigated this pattern in every medium imaginable — watercolor, pencil, crayon, ink, wood, steel, bronze, marble, latex, resin, plaster and more. Louise Bourgeois: Spiral is a survey of these motifs in their many manifestations. Published alongside a monographic Cheim & Reid exhibit under the same name, this book is filled with page after page of coiling, snake-like sculptures, mesmerizing graphite drawings and curious chiseled vortices, as well as a series of whorling word drawings that capture Bourgeois’ poetic voice in extraordinary pictorial form. These abstract images are interspersed with her musings on the shape and its symbolic resonance. A unique look at this little-known aspect of Bourgeois’ long and innovative career, this book is sure be a source of inspiration for artists of all disciplines.
