An essential figure in the spread of early 20th century modern art, European art dealer and collector Justin K. Thannhauser spent much of his life amassing an impressive collection of works by some true art world icons, including the likes of Braque, Cezanne, Degas, Gaugin, Manet, Picasso, Pissarro and Van Gogh. In the late 1970s, he gifted a significant portion of these pieces to The Guggenheim — a pivotal moment for the museum that helped to forever define their collection of impressionist, postimpressionist and School of Paris holdings.
