Yoruba Chair - White

Our White Yoruba Chair is fit for royalty— literally. This functional work of art comes to us from southwestern Nigeria, where it was carefully handcrafted by the Yoruba ethnic group. Traditionally made as thrones for the tribe’s kings and queens, these beautiful hand-beaded chairs are customarily crafted by Yoruba men, following methods passed down from father to son for generations. These skilled artisans stitch thousands upon thousands of tiny glass beads to panels of fabric, which are then applied to a carved wooden frame— a painstaking process that takes over three months to complete. This particular piece is made using only bright, white beads, patterned with a symbolic floral relief design. Perfect in an eclectic, boho-chic interior, we also love this stunningly detailed seat in a protected outdoor space for a pop of that world-traveler feel.
